What are Home Groups?

Home groups are small groups of people that meet regularly in a variety of ways to build relationships and encourage one another in their adventure with Jesus. One person will make sure the group meets regularly and arrange where they are going to meet next.

We are commended in the Bible to build one another up, encourage each other to do all that God has called us to and to support one another by spending time with one another.

  • ‘Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.’ 1 Thessalonians 5:11
  • ‘And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.’ Hebrews 10:24-25
  • ‘Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.’ Galatians 6:2

Home groups should:

  • Meet regularly (probably fortnightly is a good aim)
  • Develop growing friendship with one another (through meeting, and contact between meetings)
  • Support and encourage one another in their walk with God (this will affect what you need to share with one another, pray and prophesy over each other, check up on one another to see how you are doing between meetings and during difficult circumstances, etc.)

Each Home Group will develop its own flavour and ways of meeting. These will reflect the personalities and passions of the people involved. Some may pray together, some study the bible, some chat over coffee, others might do an activity that all the group enjoy. As long as it builds relationships and helps the group to share life, and encourage each other to grow in God then it is fine!  Resources for prayer and bible study will be available from the Elders if people want it.
As new people come to Hope we encourage local groups to invite them in and incorporate them into their group. As groups develop, their membership may change in the light of their vision.
These groups are relational and our hope is that regardless of work, family or other commitments, everyone will find a group nearby so that whatever shape each group takes, we hope to see them supporting brothers and sisters in developing deep relationships with one another and encouraging each other in their walk with Jesus

Martin Crook

Prayer is at the heart of every church and it is important that we bring thanks to our Lord for what He is giving to us. We meet together on the first Thursday of each month at 7.45p.m at our house – 7 Headley Road, Billericay, CM11 1BJ. We would love to see you there as well.

Recent meetings have seen wonderful answers but also prophetic words about the future direction of Hope. It is so important that we ask for God’s guiding hand on where we go and the following words have come from recent meetings:

At out September meeting, Martin opened with a passage from Romans 12 v.3 about the many parts of the body all being dependent on one another. We thanked God for providing a new youth worker – Hannah, and an administrator – Natalie. These two were lifted up in prayer for strength, wisdom and direction.  Martin brought the thought of a “New Season” for Hope Church with a fresh start.

We gave thanks for our involvement with Hutton Community Centre and asked God to provide us a room there for Hannah and Natalie to work from.

There was prayer about the need for God’s people at Hope getting to know one another and that God will open their eyes to this, and to fulfil His task in the work of bringing salvation to the people in the area who don’t know Him.

Thanks for our youth who have grades to enable them to go to university, to those who are starting school.  To those returning to jobs in school.

Thanks for the proposed new website that it will work to bring fresh folk to a relationship with our Lord.

A message of “binding” us together, was brought and the seven (number of perfection) of us joined hands to mark our agreement that these prayers will build the body.

October brought these messages:

Joshua 1 – Be bold be strong also walls of Jericho coming down

2 Timothy 1 – For God has not given us spirit of fear and timidity

2Cor 3 – The Lord is Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom

Words of encouragement to us regarding trusting God. In all circumstances, He will break down barriers

Picture of a bungee jumper; bold, trusting God

Eph 4 – unity of believers strength together in Christ He Is the cornerstone we are strong in Him We need more of Him in our lives
